“ When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, ‘To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates’”
Genesis 15:17-18
In ancient covenant ceremonies, both parties would typically walk between the pieces of sacrifice as a sign of their commitment. But in this covenant, only the Lord passed through. God alone took upon Himself the responsibility of fulfilling His promise, demonstrating that His covenant rested on His faithfulness—not Abraham's. That same truth points us to Jesus Christ, whose righteousness accomplished what we never could. God's promises are not sustained by our ability to be perfect, but by His unchanging character and unfailing faithfulness.
Rest today in the assurance that God's promises are anchored in who He is, and let His faithfulness strengthen your trust in Him.
