First Sunday of Advent

First Sunday of Advent
(Hope)
Show me the right path, O LORD;
point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by Your truth and teach me,
for You are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in You. (Psalm 25:4-5, NLT)
As we enter the first week of Advent, we are invited to embrace our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of our hope. Hope in Christ is a balm for all our worries and anxieties. Hope in Christ bids us to set aside our troubles, to release our fears, to breathe freely, and to rest in the promise that we are in Christ and He is in us. Hope in Christ gives us strength and resilience. This blessed hope lightens our load and infuses our life moments with new and eternal perspectives. In times of trouble, we cling to Him. In times of victory, we thank Him for the gift.
Jesus is the object of our hope. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the Way for those who have no hope. He is the Truth for those who have false hope. He is the Life for those who have a good hope.
The act of hoping is waiting for Him; hope means to wait. We are encouraged in our waiting because we have a reason to hope - God’s promises never fail! Look outside of yourself for hope this week. Remember that Jesus is our only hope. Look outside of yourself to share the hope of Christ with those you encounter who have no hope.
Fill up on hope this week by consciously welcoming each day with a hope-filled heart!
Prayer:
LORD, You are the God of Hope. Thank You for giving us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Thank You for giving us an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade.
Our hope in You does not make us ashamed because Your love is poured into our hearts. You have provided Your Word to encourage us and give us hope. LORD, may we overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit that You have given us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
