Seeking Wisdom

by Pastor Dan

Recently, I ran into a person who is a regular reader of this article, and they asked me why I chose Proverbs for a number of these writings.  I simply said that we need common sense conversations and actions today.  Not only does the Bible have answers for our everyday life, but God has given us a mind and heart to search out the truths that exist within its pages.

I remember at age 27 after the death of my grandfather, I came to a place in my life where I needed help to understand my life.  God revealed to me the power of His Holy Spirit to guide me in life and to understand the Bible.  This conversation reminded me of Proverbs 16:20 that says, “He who gives attention to the word will find good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord” and Proverbs 19:8, “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul, He who keeps understanding will find good.”

I know we do not like to hear this, but it needs to be said anyway.  Today, we jump on focused bandwagons of thinking without researching for ourselves whether there is any truth to it, maybe more so in the political arena than anywhere else.  From that very night when I was unable to sleep, struggling with the biggest loss in my life to that point, I knew I needed some answers about life that I did not have.  Over the last 35 years, I have purposed to seek the Bible and its answers for every part of my life.  This in no way makes me perfect as a human being, but it has made me purposed.  The Bible keeps me grounded, and I’m thankful not to get caught up with whatever the current catchphrase or talking point is but instead to seek answers from God.

Look again at what the Bible says in those scriptures.  When we gain wisdom from the Word for our lives, the effect on us is love.  Love that we gain from God and His love for us.  Love we gain from others around us because God loves us.  That love continues even when we make poor decisions from old habits and patterns as we ask God and others for forgiveness and can break free from those poor choices and take another path.  This new path is healing and wholeness to our lives.

Do you want a different lifestyle and direction for your life?  Seek and trust in Jesus Christ and get connected with a Church that teaches the Bible as truth for practical application to life.  Become connected with others who are seeking the same.  In these relationships, God-fueled wisdom and understanding exists today.  Know that you are prayed for already.

Blessings,
Pastor Dan
