Day 1: Love is Patient
clear

(9/29) Day 1: Love is patient

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

-Ephesians 4:2 NIV

TODAY'S MARRIAGE LOVE DARE

The first part of this dare is fairly simple. Although love is communicated in a number of ways, our words often reflect the condition of our heart. For the next day, resolve to demonstrate patience and to say nothing negative to your spouse at all. If the temptation arises, choose not to say anything. It's better to hold your tongue than to say something you'll regret

TODAY'S ONE ANOTHER LOVE DARE

The first part of this dare is fairly simple. Although love is communicated in a number of ways, our words often reflect the condition of our heart. For the next day, resolve to demonstrate patience by letting someone get in front of you in a line while waiting. Maybe in line at the grocery store or in line some other place.

Day Three Fasting & Prayer
clear

Three Days of Fasting & Prayer

Introduction

Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God. 13 For I bear him witness that he has a deep concern for you and for those who are in Laodicea and Hierapolis.  Colossians 4:12-13 NASB

God's answer for overcoming your challenge!! SERVE OTHERS

You know the amazing thing about my problems isn't that I don't believe God has an answer for it but that God would like to take care of it so I can serve others. So when I put all my focus and energy on my problems I take it away from God and steal my own joy in serving others. Jesus left us an example in restoring Peter in John 21 by leaving us with a question and a clear job description.

The Question "Your name here do you love me?"

The Job Description "Your Name Here feed my sheep"

The beginning of an answer is always the same PRAYER

What will prayer do?

It will move my affections - Day 1

It will move my understanding - Day 2

It will move my will - Today

My friend today is the day breakthrough can come. You may have been in the presence of the Lord over the last two days more than ever before. You have begun a journey that is moving your affections and understanding as you have increased your awareness of God and His heart. Don't give up now because today my friend God desires to move your will.

I believe that it was not as hard for Jesus to take a beating and to have nails driven through His hands and feet, His side pierced as it was for Him to sweat drops of blood.

Why you ask?  When Jesus sweat drops of blood there was a battle of His will going on.  Once the battle of His will was done, He said, "Not my will but yours".  He was ready to have God give Him strength for what was to come.

The will is the hardest thing to overcome. I recently described it in a sermon on August 24 http://cms.icglink.net/admin/site/audio/aud_mod.cfm?aud_id=64885

like this. You can ball up your fist and in your mind you can say, "fist open up", but if your will says, "fist stay closed", it will stay closed. In my mind I can say, "yes, I know Lord", but if my will says, "I will not obey", then I do not obey.

It is time my friend to get down and dirty with the truth. Many of us say we know God but shake a closed fist in His face by not praying and seeking His will for our lives. Maybe we give God some of our affections. We try to gain some understanding from God, but when it comes to our will our actions show that we know better than God.

Please with all the love I can muster I encourage you today to finish this journey well.  I pray it will not have to come to sweating drops of blood for that to happen but I know it is a real battle. When I let God have my will it is less of a struggle to give of myself freely to serve others. Jesus did it the way no one else could, He gave up His will and gave it to God and endured pain to secure your freedom. To think that in some small way you could give up your will to be an example of Christ's freedom to others, will please God and will bring great joy to you if you're willing.

Pray:

Pray that God will move your will from yours to His.

May God grant you today the strength to finish this journey well.  By giving God your affections, understanding and will, you will forever be changed.

Now by the grace of God. GO and SERVE

The beginning of an answer is always the same PRAYER

What will prayer do?

It will move my affections - Day 1

It will move my understanding - Today

Way to go my friend for spending your time in prayer yesterday. The journey you have started on brings great reward. My prayer is that you are ready to start the second day of your journey right now.

Yesterday we talked about how prayer moves our affections and today we want to share how prayer moves our understanding.

Proverbs 3:5 says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding."

Why is this so important? I am glad you asked.

Our physical eyes and ears are not trustworthy, because they only see what is in the natural world.  What is of greater struggle sometimes is that we even interpret scripture from this natural view. This is why our affections have to be moved first and then our understanding can be moved as well.

May I be so bold as to use an example of a counseling situation that I encounter frequently? A married couple comes to me and says we need help. When I ask what the problem is they each begin to tell me what is wrong with their spouse. Then, they begin quoting scripture and say, "Well Pastor, the husband is supposed to lead and he is not" or "Well Pastor, the wife is supposed to submit and she is not". You see we take the scripture and make it what we want, rather than use it as a standard for what best serves the other.

My friend we need prayer to allow God to move our understanding from the natural to the Spiritual. To focus on Spiritual understanding means we must come to a place of giving up our rights, signing them over to God while becoming fully obedient to God first.  Only then can we become a loving servant to others. Today in prayer ask God to take you from the natural sights and sounds to the Spiritual sights and sounds.

I Pray God will give you discernment in all things because his protection is greater than any earthly fear, His resources are greater than any bank account, His blessings are far bigger than anything you can build on this earth and His joy is far beyond any sorrow or tragedy this world can throw your way.

Prayer:

Focus on others in prayer, because this journey of moving your understanding is about to change your life.

Day One Fasting & Prayer

Three Days of Fasting & Prayer

God's answer for overcoming your challenge!! SERVE OTHERS

You know the amazing thing about my problems isn't that I don't believe God has an answer for it but that God would like to take care of it so I can serve others. So when I put all my focus and energy on my problems I take it away from God and steal my own joy in serving others. Jesus left us an example in restoring Peter in John 21 by leaving us with a question and a clear job description.

The Question "Your name here do you love me?"

The Job Description "Your Name Here feed my sheep"

The beginning of an answer is always the same PRAYER

What will prayer do?

It will move my affections

Epaphrus is a wonderful example of what Jesus was trying to get across to Peter. The Apostle Paul talks about how Epaphrus was such a prayer warrior for others that he describes a "Deep Concern" for others in his prayers.

Jesus did not go to Peter and say, let's talk about you denying me. Peter was truly sorry for being so focused on self that he denied Jesus. So what did Jesus do? He asked for Peter's undeniable love and affection for Him and told him to go serve others.

Come on really aren't things hard enough the way it is, you say? Why Pastor, do I need to worry about others? Well I knew you were going to ask!  So, if your world is no bigger than your needs and wants your joy will be limited by what you can gain and accomplish in this physical existence.

Today the challenge that is before you is to take your problems and cares to the Lord in prayer.  Ask Him to show you how to handle them and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you. But today don't stop there; start praying for others you know, asking God how you can be a servant to them. Call and/or write a note of encouragement to those you know are struggling around you, even those you think may not like you. If you begin doing this every day and you will find joy beyond words. You see, in true prayer with God, He moves your affection from you to Him. He moves your affections from you to others and last but not least He moves the things you call your own to be a blessing to others by giving.

Prayer:

Today and every day I want my affections to be known as a passionate lover of God and others along with becoming an extravagant giver.
