Day Three Fasting & Prayer "Follow Me"
clear

"For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" "follow Me"

31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, and  said, "Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's."  34 And He summoned the multitude with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 "For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's shall save it. 36 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 "For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."

Mark 8:31-38 NASB

We are so thankful for you today. We pray you have read the last two blogs "Deny" and "Take up your cross" Today we talk about "follow me" two simple words yet they carry such power. These two words had people dropping fishing nets and abandoning the only livelihood they ever knew. These two simple words can take you on a journey you never would think possible. These two words can bring out courage and strength even when you cannot see the road ahead of you.

Follow me comes with the power of abandonment:

Letting something go you know and love and exchanging it for something of greater value. My friend today give up on your old way of life and your old way of thinking. Jesus was so right when He said to Peter you have man's interest in mind. Whatever you think you want to seek here on this earth, even what you think you might want to accomplish for God

LET IT GO and SEEK God and God alone.

This requires taking a risk that God knows better what you need than you do.

TAKE A RISK AND  PURSUE THAT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

Follow me comes with the power of courage and strength:

I believe we all would like to take on the challenges that life throws at us. Many time it seems like they never stop and just when we think we are rises above them something else happens. If only I could get a little ahead in my finances, If only I could feel better, If only my car would not break down, if only if only. No things are not going to always be easy when following God but I can tell you that your will always have just what God knows you need. The blessing my friend is that when you allow God to become intimately involved in your life and give him full control the

IF ONLY TURNS TO I CAN BECAUSE HE CARES AND GIVES ME STRENGTH

Daily prayer:

Lord today I will drop everything and follow you. Today when the pressures of life come and swirl around me I will lift my hands up in full surrender to You. I will follow wherever you go, I will do whatever you say do. Lord I abandon my will and my way and seek Your strength and courage. Thank you Lord today for calling out to me and saying "Follow Me"

Day Two Fasting & Prayer "Take up your cross"
clear

"For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" "Take up his cross"

We are praying for everyone ahead of time who may read this. We pray that you have read yesterday's blog on "Deny" today we are asking you to take up your cross. This sounds like an easy thing to do but so often it is not. To take up our cross we must come face to face with the sin in our lives. You see the challenge with that is many time it is hidden in our own eyes; we are blind to the way we are acting and what we are saying that hurt others and grieves God. I see this a lot and people ask me how I know when I see it. Actually it is quite easy, show me a person who is more focused on the do's and don't of religion than a relationship with God, show me a person who tries to make everyone else change so they can change and I will show you someone who is blind to their own sin.

There is a second and most wonderful part of taking up your cross, when you deny yourself and you accept the power of God through Jesus Christ on the cross and are empowered by God's Holy Spirit to kill sin and give birth to the power of God's Spirit.

I told someone this story the other day. Those of us who are not willing to take up our cross are like a person going to the garage opening the door and seeing the riding lawn mower. As they look at the mower they say I know that if I will get on it, start it up, turn on the blades and drive it through the yard it will cut the grass and make the yard look good. So many people know that but they deny the power the mower has by simply looking at it. Some may actually get on the mower but never try to start it up or they may start it and drive it through the yard but never turn the blades on.

Today stop staring at the mower please?

Own up to the selfishness and sin in your life; take on the difficult task of going to God and asking Him for forgiveness. Stop blaming others for your inactivity and laziness. All those situations you think that someone has done you wrong or set out to hurt you stop thinking harm to those people. Stop denying the power that Jesus gave through the cross. Ask someone to pray with you and for you to be accountable to them and God. Receive forgiveness and enter into a brand new way of thinking.

LOOK OUT THOUGH the joy that comes from taking up your cross can be very contagious

Daily Prayer

Dear Lord today is a brand new day for me. Please Lord reveal to me those sins in my life that have kept me from enjoying my relationship with you and others. Please forgive me Lord and I pray today for your Holy Spirit to come into my life and bring me joy. Lord I release into your care all those who I think have hurt me and I now understand that even if they meant it for harm you meant it for my correction and your joy. Lord teach me how to daily seek you  and allow you to make my life look like a nice mowed lawn that other would like to be around. Thank you Lord today for all that you have done for me.

Day One Fasting & Prayer "Deny"
clear

"For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" "Deny"

I recently heard a well known speaker who claims to know God and teach His word all across the world. If I would say the name everyone would know who it is. During a speaking engagement this person said this about the amount of wealth they had amassed. "I am enjoying my reward here on this earth" There might be more truth to that statement then this person would want to admit. I heard that and began to cry. The teaching and comments were leading the audience to believe that if you live for God and not just obey God but do as this person does then you too can be rewarded with wealth and possessions to enjoy while you live on this earth. How sad, not because I don't believe in God pouring out wealth on people or that I am mad because God has not given me the same amount of wealth but because wealth has nothing to do with serving God. Hear God's rebuke to Peter. "You are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's."

Are you setting your mind on God's interest?

God's interest is you and your whole being. He says that the greatest two commandments are "Love Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as your self." The word deny is to actually disown self. The writer of Proverbs tells us not to lean on our own understanding.  So to disown myself is not to rely on anything I can think up but daily disown my own thoughts and seek God for His thoughts on every decision I need to make. We are not going to always be right but God desire to help us get better and better each day in hearing and obeying what He says. The more we are willing to disown self the more we will begin to hear and understand God and His will in all situations.

Today turn the TV off, I know this is scary but turn off the cell phone and computers open the Bible and read it. Ask God to show you what it means and to help you do what it says. You will be amazed at the peace and joy you will find when your mind is on God's interest. His love will overwhelm you, His mercy will forgive you and His grace will equip you to change the world around you.

Try it and you will not be disappointed

Daily prayer

Lord today you have revealed your love for me in such a wonderful way and I thank you for that. Lord help me to disown myself and to begin asking you for your interest. Thank you today for your love, forgiveness and grace to make me an attractive person for you.
