Our Purpose:

Build up and encourage Disciples of Jesus Christ, as they reflect His image to others.

Our Focus for this week:

Allow God, through His Holy Spirit to shape and sharpen us

Day 6 – Pray as we look at being healed next week

Daily Verses - James 5:16-18, 1 Peter 2:18-25

James 5:16-18

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the sky poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit.”

Today there are two things to begin this preparation for healing. One to know, and pray the heart of God. I am not going to go into detail about the story of Elijah, but I will tell you this. The reason Elijah’s prayer was answered was two-fold. First, He prayed the heart of God. God spoke to Elijah about His heart for the people, and their rebellion. There can be no healing, if we have a rebellious heart. There is no rain of blessing from God, if we are rebelling. Healing comes when we are repentant. Secondly, God’s timing is everything. We must be patient and allow the will of God to be revealed in its proper time.

1 Peter 2:18-25

“Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a man bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.”

The final thing to know about healing, is that it only comes from God. More specifically, through the suffering of Jesus. We are told in Scripture that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world. So where is the battle? It lies squarely between our spirit, and our flesh. Whenever our spirit knows God, and His word, its love produces a push outward through our flesh to try and have our flesh reflect the image of God. When our flesh becomes resistant to love’s pursuit, a battle ensues. A decision must be made in the mind, as to whom you are going to give control over to. Real healing comes when that decision is based wholly, and completely on God’s Spirit to reign, or have full control. Jesus Christ won this battle through the cross for us, now I take what Jesus did on the cross, and reflect it by sacrificing my flesh, (my mind, will, and emotions) to Jesus, in front of others.  By doing this, I am being healed, God is praised, and I have a testimony to share with others, all the while entrusting ourselves into God’s care.

I would enjoy hearing from you. How is God transforming your life?

Be Blessed
