Day 4 – Automatic Response Habits

Daily Verses - Luke 10:38-42

“Now as they were traveling along, He entered a certain village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. And she had a sister called Mary, who moreover was listening to the Lord's word, seated at His feet. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him, and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me." But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her. "

God desires to shape me, and sharpen me, through realizing, and choosing the things of most importance. We are so quickly distracted from what is best for us. We work long hours, we seek, and pursue “the finer things in life”. We deem Sundays more important to catch up on weekly responsibilities than resting in the fellowship of others at Church. We complain that there is not enough time to do all the things we need to do. We struggle to carve a few moments out of our day to speak with, and hear from God, and then wonder why we don’t hear His voice, or feel His presence in our lives. Where did we learn these habits from? How did they become ingrained in our lives?

The Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:11-13, “for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”.

Today this is an arduous process for us to pray through. Pray that God reveals to you those habits, where you pursue the things of the world, which are taking you away from the things of God. Pursuing the things of God in Scripture is called Godliness. It means with respect, and honor you bring into view, and apply those things that are best for you. If God’s heart, has your best in mind at all times, in all things, then would it not be in your best interest to know the heart of God for you?

1 Timothy 6:6-10 “But godliness actually is a means of great gain, when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang.”

Today seek God’s best interest for you, be willing to change your habits to fit His will for your life.
